Guidelines for the French Press
Assemble your equipment for the french press by adding the necessary weight to a barbell or EZ-bar and setting it on the ground in front of you.
With your hands about 8 to 12 inches apart, use an overhand grip (palms facing down) to hold the barbell while bending solely at the knees.
With your feet about shoulder-width apart and your knees slightly bent, take a straight stance with the bar.
To release the tension in your triceps, raise the bar above your head and slightly bend at the elbows. Now, your palms are pointing up.This is where you should start the exercise.
Lower the bar behind your head as far as is comfortable while maintaining your elbows fixed and pointing straight up toward the ceiling.
After a brief stop gradually raise the bar to its initial position.
Repeat the motion while keeping your elbows in their natural positions.
French Press Tricks
At the peak of the exercise, avoid locking your elbows out and release any tension in your triceps.
Concentrate on moving just your forearms while trying to maintain your body as still as possible.
Throughout the motion, keep your head up and your eyes forward.
